10 Best Places to Visit in England

Best Places to Visit in England

Traveling to England is a great way to experience the country, and it’s one of my favorite places in Europe. There are so many beautiful cities with their own unique history that make this country so special.

Here we will go over some of my favorite places in England—from London’s museums and cathedrals to the lakeside towns along the coast. I hope you find something here on this list that inspires you to visit one of these amazing cities soon!

London

London is the capital city of England, and it's a great place to visit. If you're looking for something more than just London, then consider visiting one of these other cities:

  • Bath - This historic city has been around since Roman times! It's home to some amazing architecture and shopping centers.
  • Oxford - This university town has lots of history as well as beautiful museums and parks all within walking distance of each other.

York

York is one of the most popular cities in England and has a rich history and culture. It's also home to many great restaurants, bars, museums and tourist attractions. If you're looking for a city where you can walk around or ride your bike everywhere then this is it!

If you're visiting York during one of its festivals (such as Shakespeare's Day), there will be plenty of events happening around town that make this place even more interesting than usual!

Bath

Bath is famous for its Roman baths, which were built in the first century AD and are still in use today. The city of Bath is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and has been inhabited since Iron Age times.

It was first settled by Celts (the Britons) around 500 BC and later became part of the Roman Empire between 43 AD and 410AD, when it was sacked by Anglo-Saxon invaders from Germany led by Caradoc ap Aberlemno who called it Caer Llechweddon ("fortress of Lleyn").

Bath's location on the River Avon meant that it grew into an important town during medieval times when there were many wool markets held here every week until 1485 when Henry VII banned them due to their high price inflation rate against other goods such as wheat flour or barley malt which remained legal tender but only at fixed prices set by law makers rather than market forces!

Salisbury

Salisbury is a beautiful city in the south of England. It has been settled since Roman times and was home to King Alfred the Great, who ruled from 871 to 899 AD. The city is also home to the oldest cathedral in Britain: Salisbury Cathedral.

Salisbury Castle dominates this area with its massive walls, towers and keep (stronghold). The castle dates back to 1067 when William Rufus built it on top of an earlier Anglo-Saxon fortification that had been built on top of Roman ruins!

Cornwall

Cornwall is a county in the far southwest of England. It's famous for its beaches, cliffs and stunning scenery, but it's also known for its rich history and culture.

The county has a thriving tourism industry with many attractions that are worth visiting if you're traveling around Cornwall on vacation.

The Lake District

The Lake District is a national park in the north of England. It is one of the most beautiful places in the UK, and it's known for its lakes, mountains and hiking trails. There are so many things to do in this area that it’s almost impossible to fit them all into one article!

If you want to get away from everything else for a bit then we recommend visiting Ullswater or Windermere (the two largest lakes). You can take a boat ride across these lakes or hike along their shores.

If you're not up for any physical activity then simply relax on your own deckchair with some music playing in your headphones while looking out over those beautiful waters!

Oxford

Oxford is one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in the world. It has a lot of history, culture, and architecture to offer. If you're looking for a place to visit that has such an interesting past as well as beautiful sights to see today, look no further than Oxford!

It's also home to some great shopping areas like Cowley Road Market or Broad Street which make it easy for you to find something perfect for yourself without having any trouble finding what your heart desires!

Cambridge

Cambridge is a beautiful city and home to some of the most prestigious universities in England. It's also known for its history, culture and architecture.

Cambridge has some of the best attractions in England that are worth visiting:

  • University of Cambridge - This university was founded over 500 years ago by Henry VI. Today it has more than 40,000 students studying across multiple schools and departments within its four campuses (King's College Chapel; Downing Street; Grantchester Road; West Road). The library contains 70 million items! You can visit their website for more information about tours & events happening there throughout the year!

Stonehenge

Stonehenge is a prehistoric monument in Wiltshire, England, 2 miles (3.2 km) west of Amesbury and 8 miles (13 km) north of Salisbury. The stones are the remaining remains of a stone circle built during the Neolithic or Bronze Age around 3200 BC.

The monument was constructed between 3000 and 2500 BC and consists of stone circles surrounding two large trilithons: lintels formed by long horizontal stones set up to support uprights.

These were originally topped with large sarsen stones, but these have since been removed for use elsewhere; their exact replacement remains unknown because they were moved to another location during World War II when the original site was bombed.

Additionally there are five smaller trilithons which may have supported wooden posts used for measuring astronomical events such as eclipses; this is known as a bolide calendar used by Stonehenge builders

Dover

Dover is a port city in England. It is located on the English Channel and it is the closest port to France.

Dover Castle is located in Dover, and it has been called one of the most important castles in England.

England is a lovely place to visit, and these cities are the best of the best. Out of all the places to go in Europe, England is one of the most beautiful, historic places to visit. I hope you found something that you’re excited to see on this list! If anything seems missing or inaccurate, please feel free to contact me and let me know.

These are some great destinations in England that you can add to your travel itinerary. All of these places are great spots for those wanting a more traditional European vacation. I hope this article has inspired you to travel to England soon!
